BUENA VISTA - Township Committee members shared their support with the Green Acres, Farmland, Blue Acres, and Historic Preservation Bond Act of 2007 by unanimously passing a resolution to endorse it during last Monday's meeting.
During the first minutes of the regular meeting, Fred Akers of the Great Egg Harbor Watershed Association explained the importance of the act to the committee and a handful of audience members.
"Green Acres matches our tax dollars by as much as 50 cents," Akers said. "I've seen hundreds of acres of land preserved."
He announced during the November election there will be a question regarding the Garden State Preservation Trust Fund, which gives money to buy open space, parks and preserves farmland.
It also can help ecosystem services and "covers more than just green," Chiarello said. Akers added it helps areas that have been flooded and Chiarello cited Open
Space money may have been helpful when the dam at Unexpected Road sustained flood damage earlier this year.
The township is still waiting for funds to fix the damage from FEMA and considered asking the county for financial help Monday evening.
