BUENA VISTA: Open space advocates want your vote

From staff reports BUENA VISTA - Mayor Chuck Chiarello, Mullica Mayor Kathy Chasey and several other environmentalists are gathering today to urge voters to support a statewide ballot question concerning open space.

Question No. 3 on the Nov. 6 asks for the support for a $200 million bond to protect open space.

Today, the local group is meeting at 12:30 p.m. at Michael Debbi Park in Richland, where the township recently acquired 70 acres of land through an open space grant.

Representatives from the Weymouth Environmental Commission, Pinelands Preservation Alliance, Great Egg Harbor Watershed Association, Environment New Jersey and state Conservation Foundation will be present.

After the press conference, Fred Akers of the Watershed Association plans to lead a walk back into the proposed new property and show off a 5-acre vernal lake.
